Purchasing Manager
About the Role
Our client is a rapidly growing organization specializing in packaging and safety solutions that support manufacturers, warehouses, and logistics operations nationwide. We are seeking a Purchasing Manager who combines analytical thinking with strong leadership to oversee purchasing operations and drive supply chain efficiency. The selected candidate will lead a team responsible for inventory planning, supplier coordination, and fulfillment optimization, ensuring product availability while maintaining healthy inventory levels.
Position SummaryThe Purchasing Manager will manage a team of buyers handling both domestic and international procurement activities. This role requires a mix of strategic oversight and day-to-day execution - balancing vendor performance, inventory turns, and service levels.
Key performance areas include:
Fulfillment: Maintaining high customer order fill rates.
Inventory Investment: Optimizing inventory value and turnover.
Lead and mentor a team of buyers handling daily replenishment across various categories and distribution centers.
Oversee supplier relationships (domestic and international), including communication, lead time tracking, and shipment coordination.
Maintain strong service levels through effective inventory planning and demand-supply alignment.
Evaluate purchasing data and performance metrics using ERP tools and analytical reports.
Work cross-functionally with sales, operations, and warehouse teams to align buying decisions with forecasted demand and promotions.
Identify and implement process improvements through automation, analytics, and workflow standardization.
3-6 years of experience in purchasing, supply chain, or inventory management, preferably within distribution or manufacturing.
Minimum 3 years of experience leading or supervising a purchasing or buying team.
Proficiency with ERP systems (e.g., NetSuite, SAP, Epicor, or similar).
Strong Excel and analytical skills, including data modeling, pivot tables, and lookups.
Demonstrated ability to manage fulfillment metrics and inventory KPIs effectively.
Excellent communication and leadership capabilities.
Experience handling both domestic and international sourcing, including import documentation and logistics coordination.
Experience in demand planning, forecasting, or S&OP (Sales & Operations Planning).
Exposure to vendor development and global sourcing strategies.
