Marin County Parks manages 40 public parks and pathways, and 18,500 acres of open space. These include: Park facilities maintenance and improvements Open space road and trail management and improvements Vegetation management for wildfire risk reduction and ecosystem health, in partnership with regional fire departments, the Marin Wildfire Prevention Authority, and natural resource scientists Climate change and sea‑level rise resilience Equity The Marin County Parks Natural Resources and Science program is now recruiting for three (3) Seasonal Wildlife Technicians for the 2026 Season. We are looking for people who would enjoy working in our wildlife program from February through October. The following roles are available: Wildlife Technician: This position will work on wildlife monitoring and inventory, habitat assessments, data management, project compliance, and will be working closely with other teams on collaborative projects. Tasks include servicing wildlife cameras, docent programs, nesting bird habitat and behavior surveys, bat habitat assessments and emergence surveys, preconstruction surveys, and construction monitoring. Familiarity with or desire to learn vegetation communities, special status species, birds and general wildlife survey techniques, and report writing is desirable. Fuels Technician: This position will conduct biological resource assessments specifically for fuel reduction and fire mitigation projects. Assessments will include nesting bird habitat and behavior surveys, wildlife habitat assessments, rare plant surveys, and vegetation community assessments. Additionally, this position will assist with landscape‑level fuel reduction project management including grazing efforts, controlled burns, and mechanical vegetation removal, as well as small‑scale fuel reduction efforts in urban interfaces. Familiarity with or desire to learn vegetation communities, special status species, birds and general wildlife survey techniques is desirable. There may be opportunities to support other Natural Resource teams and collaborate with other departments. Additional tasks for all Natural Resources & Science Seasonal staff may include: treating invasive plants, restoration planting activities, working with volunteers, monitoring and collecting plant and wildlife population data, docent work, mapping and recording work completed using GPS/GIS, data entry/processing, writing monitoring protocols and summary reports, maintaining tools and equipment, general park maintenance and other tasks as needed. Tasks are subject to change during COVID and wildfire season, seasonal staff should have ability to be flexible during these times. Highly Qualified Candidates Will be willing to perform tasks both indoors and outdoors in a variety of open space settings and have experience working independently and providing support on more complex projects and teams. They will have experience or a willingness to learn four‑wheel drive vehicle operations and digital mapping and data collection techniques, including ArcGIS. Successful candidates will have experience with nest searching and bird identification by sight and sound, will be familiar with local fauna and flora, and will have some experience interfacing with members of the public while representing the department.
